Since its establishment in 1751, the Takihyo Group has developed its business over a long period of time based on the universal management philosophies of “Nothing stands before trust,” “Prosperity lies in modesty,” and “Customer before thyself.”
In addition, based on our corporate identity: “Our goal is to achieve a spiritually nourished society by creating an interesting company with great dreams.” , we have placed the following at the center of our management: to contribute to nature and culture, to give dreams and comfort to society, and to value each individual and make the most of their talents. We believe that these management philosophies and corporate identity will lead to the current promotion of CSR (corporate social responsibility) and sustainability management.*
* Sustainability management: Management aimed at improving sustainability of the business by giving consideration to the sustainability of the environment, society, and economy.
Under these circumstances, in order for the Takihyo Group to continue to develop and enhance its corporate value, there is a growing need to consider the impact on the global environment, including climate change, waste, and water resources, and to address social issues, including human rights, diversity, and the labor environment, in all aspects of our corporate activities. We also believe that the sustainable development of the Takihyo Group is required to contribute to the sustainability of society as a whole, i.e., to the realization of a sustainable society.
Based on the above recognition, we have formulated the “Takihyo Group Sustainability Basic Policy” and will continue to make company-wide efforts to achieve sustainable management with the cooperation of our suppliers and customers, as well as with the understanding of all our stakeholders so that we will be highly evaluated by consumers and investors. We will make company-wide efforts to realize sustainability management.”
We will consider the characteristics of the textile industry and focus our activities on important issues such as: “Consideration of environmental impact and human rights issues in the long, complex and fragmented supply chain with high dependence on product imports”, “Development and provision of environmentally friendly products and improvement of the environment to obtain international certification”, “Contributing to a recycling-based economy through product recycling** and upcycling*** products,” “Proactively incorporating digital technology into business practices to reduce inefficient work, and promoting the transformation of employees’ work styles through methods such as telecommuting and remote work.”
Furthermore, we will tackle these issues as a whole with the new Sustainability Committee under the CEO, establishing issues to be addressed, following up activity progress, and improving external communication with international organizations and NPOs. Through these and more, we will improve awareness and knowledge throughout the entire company and produce results.
In order to tackle these issues throughout the company, we have established a new Sustainability Committee under the direct control of the president, which will raise awareness and knowledge throughout the company by setting issues to be addressed, following up on the status of initiatives, and strengthening communication with external organizations such as international organizations and NPOs.
At the same time, we will form a Human Rights Policy, Procurement Policy (a revision of the current Takihyo CSR Procurement Guidelines), and Environmental Policy and Goals to address issues with high priority in the Sustainability Basic Policy.
** Recycling: The process of turning products that are no longer wanted into raw materials and using them to create new products.
For example, plastic bottles can be used as raw materials and turned into fibers and used for clothing.
*** Upcycling: The process of taking products that are no longer wanted and using their characteristics to create new products that have more value.
For example, denim can be cut apart and used as raw material to make it a sneaker upper or eco-friendly bag.
