NO WASTE Project

About the NO WASTE Project

This project is a closed loop system built on the concept of “Don’t waste anything.” It collects unused textiles that are inevitably left over when making apparel products, and shreds them into fibers so they can be reborn as yarn, fabric, and products.

Shimamura Co., Ltd.

As part of Shimamura’s sustainability activities, we worked together to design products that used Reecotte, a sustainable material that was created in the NO WASTE Project scheme. These products were then sold at Fashion Center Shimamura stores nationwide and on Shimamura’s online store.

THE NEW DENIM PROJECT®

About THE NEW DENIM PROJECT®

THE NEW DENIM PROJECT® was launched by Central America Textiles, a spinning company in Central America Guatemala, in an effort to develop sustainable materials that minimize the burden on the planet. The project collects unused cloth that is left over in the denim-making process, used clothing imported from the United States that cannot be resold, and cotton that fall during the spinning process, and spins them all into textiles, giving them new life as various products. The cotton that fall during the spinning process are also used as fertilizer to grow organic coffee in coffee farms, creating a closed-loop production process. The Takihyo Group entered a distributor agreement in 2018 and has begun selling the products in Japan.

HIGHRACT®

About HIGHRACT®

“HIGHRACT®” is a next-generation sustainable material developed by HighChem Co., Ltd. from corn-derived PLA (polylactic acid).
PLA, a biodegradable plastic, is gaining attention as a carbon-neutral material that theoretically emits zero CO2 when incinerated, since it absorbs CO2 in the process of growing plants used as raw materials.
Furthermore, after use, it decomposes into water and CO2 under certain conditions, greatly reducing its impact on the environment.
In January 2022, we entered into a basic strategic alliance agreement with HighChem Co., Ltd. and have begun efforts to expand the “HIGHRACT®” business both domestically and internationally.
